ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The believers of Christian Revival Church ESS sector Itanagar, celebrated Father's Day today honouring the fathers.
Narrating the importance and significance of celebrating Father’s Day in today’s world, Dr. Joram Dol, founder president of Apostolos Bible College and ACRYA explained the origin of Father’s day celebration, the role of a father and their influence in the society.

APCRCC, ACRYA and CRC Chimpu mourn member’s death
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC), its youth wing Arunachal Christian Revival Youth Association (ACRYA) and Christian Revival Church Chimpu have mourned the sad and untimely demise of Paul Vijay Diru, a young and promising member, who breathed his last at his Chimpu residence battling cancer on June 15.
Diru was a member of CRC Chimpu and was studying in class XII at Govt. Higher Secondary school (GHSS), Itanagar and was the son of Komi Diru and Yamen Diru.
The APCRCC, APCRCWW and ACRYA office bearers, church members and relatives paid their respectful adieu to the departed soul while attending the funeral service at Chimpu on Saturday.
Emulate good practice
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The idea being practised at Akashdeep Complex here to employ some volunteers to help public park their vehicles could be emulated by other market welfare committees of Naharlagun, Itanagar and Nirjuli, suggested Education and Cultural Development Society (ECDS).
If the practice is adopted, it would not only help in systematic parking of vehicles but also give employment opportunity to many unemployed youths, ECDS said in a release. This system which is practised in all metro cities would also reduce unwanted vehicular accidents mainly due to haphazard parking.
It also urged the state government to adopt a strict policy to deal with bandh culture in the state, especially capital complex.

Work on despite notice from Forest Dept: Federation
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Save Mon Region Federation claimed that the road construction at Kudung village under Lumla constituency was still going on despite claim by local MLA Jambey Tashi that the work has been stopped after a notice was issued by forest department for carrying out the work without forest clearance.
The motorable road project from TRC Tawang stage I to Tawang stage II barrage area funded by NHPC had run into trouble after locals lodged complaint with concern authorities that the road construction work was started without proper forest clearance.
Responding to the public complaint, the forest department had on June 7 issued order for immediate halt of the construction activity. Though the local MLA claimed that the work had been stopped on June 15, it continued, the Federation informed. The Federation said that its members visited the site today and found that construction work is going on.
They called on state government not to grant forest clearance to NHPC for their hydropower projects in Tawang stating that the company has been carrying out road construction with violation of forest conservation act.

Berlin Deori passes away
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Former General Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress Berlin Deori passed away this afternoon at his residence here.
Deori is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
He was 37 and left behind his wife, a four-

Describing late Deori as a dedicated youth leader, Yomso said his sudden death has caused an irreparable loss to the society and the state as a whole.
He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Capital Complex Petroleum Depot Association (CCPDA) has also mourned the untimely demise of Berlin and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
Deori was vice president of CCPDA.
Assam carries out eviction at Ramghat Dullung
ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Barely weeks after the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur and his East Kameng counterpart resolved to maintain peace along the border, Assam has done it again by carrying out eviction drive at Ramghat Dullung under Taraso circle of Papum Pare district on June 14 last breaking the mutual agreement.
Gram Panchayat Member Tana Nuk informed this daily over telephone that hundreds of Assam forest officials led by district forest officer (DFO) Chariali, Sonitpur evicted the LT pole of the Ramghat village area and further threatened to demolish the houses of villagers in the next eviction drive.
The district administration said that the report will be verified soon.

Neglected Tippi Orchid Centre decaying

ITANAGAR, Jun 17: Tippi Orchid Research Centre, one of state’s best known assets is in dire need of attention.
One would imagine that the centre touted as one of India’s largest with more than 350 varieties of orchids, including rare species would be well taken care of but one glance at the centre is enough to expose the sad state of affairs.
The Tissue Culture Laboratory is on the brink of closure due to lack of equipments and even the fibre sheet of the Glass House is in tatters.
The supposedly translucent sheets have turned deep brown blocking the needed light for the orchids.
Inaugurated by Assam Governor B.K. Nehru in 1972, the Glass house which is a tourist’s attraction accommodates about 250 orchids which are displayed in earthen pots.
Almost all the vital instruments of the Tissue lab are outdated. The equipments bought in 1980 have not been replaced.
The pathetic condition can be gauged from the fact that it does not even have microscope and UV tubes which are mandatory for any labs!

The imperative Double Distillation Set, hot oven are out of order while other instruments are rusted. The small grinder at the Lab is over thirty years old while a small fridge of 100 litres is more than a decade old.
The double Unit Laminar-
The almost thirty years old lab walls have developed cracks leading to water leakage and fungal growth during rainy season.
Hardening unit to acclimatize the orchid plantlets produced in the lab have not been used in the last seven years, effectively sealing all prospects of cultivation and growth of orchids.
Officials say even the natural orchidaria created within the orchid centre was under threat from encroachers. Only recently, boundary walls have come up but a sizeable chunk of land has already been encroached. Spread across ten hectares of land, the Tippi Orchid Research Centre near Bhalukpong in West Kameng, have been left on its own by the Department of Environment and Forest. If adequate funds are not provided, the centre would be forced to close down pretty soon.
There was a time when Researchers came flocking to the center from all over the world. Today there are few takers because of the pathetic condition of the Centre.
Interestingly, the govt does not charge fees from the visitors to raise fund whereas on any given day, there are more than 50 visitors to the centre.
And the centre has been forced to stop selling orchids mostly grown in natural orchadaria because they have run out of receipt sheets!
Ambolin Bridge threatens to collapse

ITANAGAR, Jun 17: It is fear that if there is no respite from rain, Ambolin Bridge connecting Anini would be washed away yet again.
The bridge which connects Anini collapsed last year in April which was restored only in March this year. Abutment on one side was facing some erosion.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Tayeng and his team of officials, who visited the site yesterday, found that all the boulder protection walls have been washed away and the abutment itself is now facing the full brunt of the river.
The district administration has set up a WT station for regular updates and restoration operations.
The road is still blocked at Endolin Nallah.
The DC has instructed the BRO to take immediate measures. He said that only LMV are being allowed to cross the bridge for safety purposes.
The government has to take note that there are no administrative officers both at Aruzoo and Anelih circles making it more difficult for the common citizens who have to battle all odds during monsoon.
The lack of roads communication is not the only misery that the people of landlocked Dibang Valley are facing. The BSNL landline has been dead for the last 6 months while the mobile network is erratic.
The mobile phone services were supposed to have been upgraded but there has been no any improvement, the users complain. Despite repeated complaints, the BSNL does not seem too bothered about improving the service or reconnecting the dead landline telephone connectivity, the locals allege.

ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The three days healing crusade organized by Deepak Nabam Ministry in Senki Park Prayer Centre concluded today with inauguration of the Destitute’s Shelter cum Prayer Hall by MP Takam Sanjoy and local MLA Techi Kaso in presence of officials and general public.
Speaking on the inaugural function, Sanjoy explained every individual’s responsibility towards promoting peace and tranquility in the society. DDMU reviews disaster management preparedness

Power, bandhs and funds
Dear Editor,
Gone are the days when the aphorism “today Pasighat knows and tomorrow Arunachal will,” was well known but things change and Pasighat has changed too.
There’s a paradigm shift, “...today Pasighat knows that Arunachal knew yesterday”.
Pasighat is copying Itanagar in adoption of Assam culture of bandh calls but so far has solved nothing. The political gimmick had licensed the culprits to soar free & fearless who smashed the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Daying Ering. Rather bandh culture has laden our times.
It is a culture in Assam that every sector can call bandh wherever, whenever, whoever for whatever. Pasighatians should sort out the sole cause of Pasighat Power failure which is M/S Huma Enterprise and the nexus who have been depriving the citizens from electricity.
The jigsaw goes like this; the contract for bridging power from Ranganadi to Pasighat was actually signed with Powergrid Corporation. Later the departmental bosses divided the scheme into two; Ziro to Along via Daporijo was sanctioned for Rs 62 crores which the Power Grid had completed in a year for Rs.61 crores which is visible in Along power supply.
From Along to Pasighat, M/S Huma Enterprise was given the contract with a sanction of Rs.54 crores (Govt of India Rs.29 crores and SPA Rs 25 crores) only for 130KV.
The task is indiscriminate, incomplete and baffling. But the most nauseating episode in this story is the asking of an additional fund of Rs. 64 crores.
A primary standard also could evaluate the probable result and rationalize the scene behind the screen.
Pasighat would have shined if the work culture was transparent since the beginning of the agreement. Same amount was spent but for lesser distance. During Pasighat Centenary Celebration, the visitors witnessed the power status.
The occasion reminded us our ancestors lived without electricity and Pasighat had faithfully kept the tradition.
We never know this power failure might be a maneuvered aim to hoist propaganda for Mega Dams.
An amount of Rs. 1055 lacs-
The department and the executing agency M/S Huma Enterprise are best answerable.
Whole East Siang District should unite against such system without any social prejudice, regional and political color.
Our Chief Minister is requested to see the people’s cause as vital and invest necessary action upon those erring company and its nexus that overbearingly cheated the Govt and the people.
It isn’t too much to ask for a public audit to the department and the agency.
O! Pasighat! Strike the entity not the shadow.

More political and personal than social
Dear Editor,
The frequent bandh calls enforced by various organisations in the state capital and all over the state, have caused immense hardship not only to the capital dwellers but to the whole state alike.
The government instead of taking a tough stand should act wisely and look into the grievances of the organisations. Everyone will agree that the issues are genuine and reasonable although the organisations themselves haven't earned the peoples' mandate. What is wrong here is the approach adopted by the demand makers and the learned citizens who don't take a second thought before criticizing the chief minister's leadership. Just like the intelligible demands put up, these self styled leaders also need to act mature and give time to the chief minister and his team considering the fact that it hasn't been long since he has assumed office.
The demands put up are not new, and have been passed on to generations of chief ministers who handled them in adeptly; why then single out Nabam Tuki alone? Giving an ultimatum, expecting an overnight change and imposing a 'knee jerk reaction bandh', speak of a personal or political motive rather than a social motive.

The uncovered truth
Dear Editor,
I, in the capacity of a secretary of Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing, Itanagar unit (ABKYWIU) condemn the recent attempt through media to defame the then chief engineer (P) Western zone. The truth about how the then CE (P) Western zone was wrongly suspended in March 2010 for reported over expenditure has come to light from documents we acquired. We cannot allow such discrimination and injustice to a person in a civilized society. We appeal to the state Govt to clarify how the then CE was suspended on wrong ground by the then Govt and request the organizations not to issue press statements against him. We appreciate the wisdom of then chief minister Jarbom Gamlin who stated that “……… his suspension demoralized the entire service community merely on the basis of suspicion and based on certain distorted and incomplete information…..”
We also appreciate all those organizations who have voluntarily investigated and uncovered the truth to the public domain. We shall always stand by all such organizations, who are raising voice against injustice.
Lastly, we appeal to the media friends to exercise neutrality in publishing defamatory news items.

Solid wastes and environmental concerns
With industrialization of most countries in the world, increasing global population and rising demands for food and other essentials, waste products are being released into our ecosystems leading to an increase in pollution levels. This disturbs the lives of plants, animals and humans. According to the United Nations, in the 1992 Earth Summit, around 60 per cent of countries worldwide expressed their concern about disposing solid wastes along with other environmental concerns. The problem of global warming is a major threat to our planet and gets intensified due to waste disposal which is a primary reason for greenhouse gases.
Recently, a French green documentary highlights the prime issues pertaining to waste throughout the world. The documentary film showcases the urgency to reduce the amount and harmfulness of waste and also focuses on finding alternate ways for disposal of waste, which has doubled over the years. It shows the dangers of incinerators which were once considered the best solution for waste treatment, but causes cancer and other detrimental effects in people living nearby and also shows a wide range of efforts undertaken globally to reduce and recycle waste.
Since waste disposal issues are not pertinent to just one country, all the nations should come out together with effective policies to address the environment related matters.
